In April of 2021 former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of what millions of people saw via video: the murder of George Floyd. The city, the largest in the state of Minneapolis in the USA, breathed a sigh of relief only to be whipsawed back into the reality of police violence towards people of color when Daunte Wright, also killed by police, was laid to rest. Systemic racism is deeply woven into law enforcement in the United States and many are hoping that George Floyd's murder will start to purge it from communities across the country.
